About the candidate

A neighbor committed to Carmel

I grew up in a village of about 3,000 people, where everyone knew everyone. It was the kind of place where community was personal, neighbors looked out for one another, and you felt connected to the place you lived.

Later in life, I lived in much larger places—from Munich, Germany, to the San Francisco Bay Area. I enjoyed those experiences, but it wasn't until my wife, Tatiana, and I moved to Carmel in 2014 that I felt that same sense of home again. There was something immediately familiar about living in a small community where people know one another, care about what happens around them, and share a deep attachment to the place they call home.

That connection is one of the reasons I chose to become involved in our community and, since 2023, to serve on the Carmel-by-the-Sea Planning Commission. I take that responsibility seriously. I come to meetings prepared, study the issues and supporting materials, listen carefully to residents and my fellow commissioners, and ask questions before reaching a conclusion. I believe good public decisions should be based on facts, sound judgment, and a clear understanding of their long-term consequences.

My approach is pragmatic rather than ideological. Not every issue has a simple answer, and reasonable people can disagree. What residents should expect from their elected officials is that they have done their homework, understand the choices before them, listen to different perspectives, and are prepared to explain the reasoning behind their decisions. That is the approach I have demonstrated on the Planning Commission since 2023, and it is the approach I will bring to the City Council.

Why I'm running

Practical expertise for Carmel's future

I am running for City Council because Carmel faces important decisions that require both thoughtful leadership and practical expertise. As an engineer and inventor, I bring a perspective that is uncommon in local government. I work full-time in the technology industry and have spent my career solving complex problems involving infrastructure, electrical systems, communications, and large-scale technology investments. These skills have direct relevance to Carmel—from undergrounding utilities and improving emergency communications to strengthening wildfire resilience and modernizing aging infrastructure. My experience on the Planning Commission has taught me that preserving Carmel’s unique character and preparing for its future are not competing goals. With careful analysis, sound engineering, and fiscal discipline, we can do both. That is why I’m running: to bring practical problem-solving, preparation, and a fresh professional perspective to the City Council.

This campaign is rooted in a simple belief: City Hall should be accountable, prepared, and focused on the long-term well-being of the community.
